AI for Good in Asia: Where the Rooms Actually Are in 2026–2027

Search for “AI for Good” and the first result is a summit in Geneva. The AI for Good Global Summit is run by the International Telecommunication Union, the UN’s specialised agency for digital technologies. The 2027 edition is scheduled for 21–25 June in Geneva. It is the flagship event of the category, and it sits about six thousand miles from where most of the deployment happens.

For an operator, investor, or policymaker working on applied technology in Asia, the Geneva summit is useful for following the global conversation, but regional partnerships and funding decisions tend to get made closer to home. There is no single Asian equivalent with the brand on the door. There are four or five gatherings instead, none of which uses “AI for good” in its title, most of which fall in the same two weeks of May, and each of which admits people differently.

Here is the map: the confirmed dates, the unconfirmed ones, and the admission question underneath.

The May Cluster: Singapore and Tokyo, Same Fortnight

Asia’s impact-technology calendar does not spread across the year. It compresses into a fortnight in May, split between two cities.

Singapore takes the front half. In 2026, Ecosperity Week, Temasek’s sustainability platform, ran 18–21 May. The Philanthropy Asia Summit, convened by Temasek Trust’s Philanthropy Asia Alliance, ran 18–20 May under the theme “Asian Innovation. Global Good.” The two share an ecosystem and are co-located on purpose. Later in the month, Asia Tech x Singapore, whose ATxSummit leadership track is hosted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority, has confirmed 26–28 May 2027.

Tokyo takes the back half. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has confirmed SusHi Tech Tokyo 2027 for 20–22 May. The 2026 edition recorded 60,779 participants and 798 exhibiting startups. For anyone budgeting time and travel: in May you can do Singapore, or Tokyo, or both back to back and lose ten days. Very few executives do all three Singapore events and Tokyo.

As of this writing, only SusHi Tech Tokyo and Asia Tech x Singapore have published 2027 dates. Ecosperity Week and the Philanthropy Asia Summit have not announced 2027 editions. Both run annually and both have landed in the same May window in past years. Treat 2027 Singapore sustainability dates as likely, not fixed.

The August Window: New Delhi

The one major Asian gathering with an explicit AI for Good track, using those words, is in neither Singapore nor Tokyo.

The AVPN Global Conference takes place 25–27 August 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. “AI for Good” is one of twelve thematic tracks. AVPN is a network of social investors, so the attendees are allocating capital toward outcomes rather than selling infrastructure. For the question “who in Asia is funding applied AI against a social problem,” this is the room, and it is the one date that does not collide with May.

AVPN is a capital-and-philanthropy conference with a technology track, not the other way round. A founder who arrives to demo a model will find the conversation is about theory of change, measurement, and deployment partners. Useful if you came prepared for that. A wasted trip if you did not.

Government-Convened Moments

A third category sits outside the conference circuit: summits convened by states.

India hosted the India–AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi in February 2026, built around three flagship initiatives: AI for ALL, AI by HER, and the YUVAi youth challenge. The agenda was application and inclusion rather than risk mitigation. State-convened summits are irregular and invitation-driven. They set agendas rather than close deals, but the procurement that follows often decides what gets funded in the region for the next two years.

Regional policy is diverging quickly. Korea’s AI Basic Act, Singapore’s agentic-AI governance framework, and Japan’s innovation-first statute are three different rulebooks within a few hours’ flight of each other. Which government convenes a summit, and what it puts on the agenda, is an early signal of which model is gaining ground.

Open Floor vs Vetted Room

Dates are the easy part. Whether a trip returns anything depends on what kind of room you are walking into.

Open floors sell access. Anyone who registers gets in. They offer volume and chance encounters: a large exhibition hall, hundreds of startups, a quick survey of a market. SusHi Tech Tokyo’s exhibition and Asia Tech x Singapore’s ATxEnterprise floor are open in this sense. For scanning a landscape, mapping competitors, or hiring, an open floor is efficient. For reaching one specific decision-maker, it is a lottery.

Vetted rooms curate. Attendance is by invitation, application, or membership, and someone has decided who belongs. The Philanthropy Asia Summit, Ecosperity’s core programme, the ATxSummit leadership track, and AVPN’s member conference all curate to different degrees. Their content is usually on video within a week. What you pay for is the guest list.

Asia has plenty of the first kind and few of the second, especially where technology, capital, and policy overlap. That gap is why Tech for Impact Summit exists.

T4IS is invitation-only and convened in Tokyo. The fourth annual edition runs 18–19 May 2027 as a partner event of SusHi Tech Tokyo, in the days before SusHi Tech opens, so that an executive can hold the invitation-only conversations first and walk the open floor afterwards. Past editions have put Audrey Tang, Taro Kono, Takuya Hirai, Kathy Matsui, and Charles Hoskinson in the same rooms as founders and investors working on climate, health, and governance problems.

How to Choose

With one week and one budget for 2027, the choice mostly follows from what you need out of the trip. For a market survey, go to an open floor, and SusHi Tech Tokyo is the largest in the region. For capital relationships, AVPN in August is the better date. For a policy signal, follow whichever government convenes next. For specific senior conversations you need a vetted room, and there are fewer of those than the calendar suggests.

Vetted rooms also have lead times. Invitation and application windows for May events usually close months ahead, and the better ones close early because capacity, not demand, is the constraint. If a May 2027 room matters, the decision belongs in this quarter rather than next spring.

The city has to match the thesis as well. Singapore is where Southeast Asian capital allocation and regional governance sit; Tokyo is where Japanese corporates, ministries, and their procurement budgets are; New Delhi is where India’s development-scale deployment gets funded. An “Asia strategy” that treats the three as one market tends to produce three shallow trips.

The AI for Good Global Summit convenes in Geneva next June and is worth watching. The work it describes, technology applied under real constraints and real regulation, is being done in Singapore, Tokyo, and New Delhi, under other names.
