LinkedIn →Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala is the Rector of the United Nations University and an Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations. He has been a visiting scholar and professor at universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, China, and South Africa. His research is multidisciplinary, involving the theory and applications of artificial intelligence across engineering, social sciences, economics, politics, finance, and medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, The World Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Science of South Africa, and the African Academy of Sciences. Among his many awards are the Order of Mapungubwe (South Africa's highest national honour) and the Academy of Science of South Africa's Science-for-Society Gold Medal. He holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence and Engineering from the University of Cambridge.
